There's no bad time to visit Orlando — the parks are open every day of the year and the sun shines more often than not. But the month you choose makes a real difference to the weather, the queues, and the price of your flights. If you're a UK family tied to school holidays, the choice is narrower still. Here's our honest, month-by-month guide to help you pick the right time for your Florida holiday.

The Short Answer

If you can travel outside school holidays, late April to May and November (avoiding Thanksgiving week) are hard to beat: warm, sunny days, lower humidity than summer, and noticeably shorter queues. If you're tied to school holidays, Easter and October half-term are usually the sweet spots — busy, but far more comfortable than the heat of August.

January and February: Mild and Quieter

After the New Year rush, Orlando enjoys some of its quietest weeks. Days are pleasantly warm — perfect for long park days without wilting — but evenings and early mornings can be surprisingly cool, occasionally dipping close to 10°C. Bring a light jumper for the evenings.

The one thing to plan for is the pool. Unheated Florida pools feel chilly in winter, so if you're visiting between November and February we'd recommend adding pool heating to your booking. February half-term brings a bump in UK visitors, and US Presidents' Day weekend is busy too, but both are manageable compared with peak season.

March and April: Spring Break and Easter

Spring brings near-perfect weather — warm, sunny, and not yet humid. The catch is that everyone knows it. American colleges and schools take spring break through March, and Easter brings families from both sides of the Atlantic, so expect busy parks and higher flight prices around the Easter holidays.

The upside: EPCOT's International Flower & Garden Festival usually runs through spring, filling the park with topiaries, gardens, and outdoor food kiosks. If you're coming at Easter, booking park tickets and flights early really pays off.

May: Our Favourite Month

Once Easter is over, crowds ease off and the weather is properly summery without the full weight of July humidity. The pool is warm enough to enjoy without heating, the days are long, and the queues are noticeably kinder. If your children are young enough that term dates aren't a concern, late April to early June is a fantastic window. May half-term is busier but still a good option for school-age families.

June to August: Hot, Humid, and Busy

The UK summer holidays are when most British families visit — and it's also when Florida is at its hottest. Expect daytime highs in the low 30s °C with high humidity, and short, dramatic thunderstorms most afternoons. The storms usually pass within an hour, but they do close outdoor rides and water parks while lightning is around.

Summer works best with a plan: hit the parks at opening, head back to the villa for lunch and a swim during the hottest part of the day, then return for the evening when it's cooler and the fireworks are on. Having your own pool and air-conditioned home just 12 minutes from Disney makes this midday break easy — something that's much harder from a hotel further away.

September: Quietest Parks, Stormiest Skies

With American children back at school, September often brings the shortest queues of the year. It's still hot and humid, though, and it sits at the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season, which officially runs from 1 June to 30 November. Most holidays pass without any disruption, but it's worth taking out good travel insurance and keeping an eye on forecasts in the week before you fly.

October and November: Festivals and Comfortable Days

Autumn is one of the most enjoyable times to visit. The humidity drops, temperatures settle into the high 20s, and the parks are full of seasonal extras. EPCOT's International Food & Wine Festival typically runs from late summer into November, and Halloween brings special after-hours events at Magic Kingdom and Universal.

October half-term is a popular choice for UK families and a great compromise between weather and school dates. November is quieter still — just avoid US Thanksgiving week (the fourth Thursday in November), when American families arrive in force.

December: Festive Magic (and Peak Crowds)

Early December is a hidden gem: the Christmas decorations are up across the parks, the weather is mild, and crowds are moderate. From around 20 December to New Year, though, Orlando is at its very busiest, with parks sometimes reaching capacity and flight prices at their peak. If you want a Florida Christmas, book well ahead, arrive early at the parks each day, and enjoy the quieter festive evenings back at the villa.

  • Arrive at park opening. The first two hours are the quietest of the day in every season.
  • Build in rest days. A pool day between park days keeps everyone happy, especially younger children.
  • Check park hours and events before you book. Seasonal festivals and parties change dates each year.
  • Pack for the season. Our Florida family packing list covers what to bring — and what you can leave at home.
